Christine Lemley

to

Christine Naomi (Thomas) Lemley, 88, of Metz walked into heaven to give her Lord and Savior a big hug on Sunday, July 10, 2016.  She was born in Claysville, PA, the daughter of Herbert and Mae (Rowand) Thomas on December 5, 1927.  She married the late Earl Lemley on October 22, 1946.  They had a son, James (Jim) Herbert (Gale) Lemley of Fairmont and a daughter, Rita Darlene (Tim) Byard of Mannington.  Her grandchildren are Jimmy (Tonya) Lemley of Metz; Joey Beth (J.D.) Shepherd of Fairmont; Adam (Danika) Gorby of Farmington; Wesley (Bailiegh Fluharty) Byard of Mannington; and Mariah (Josh) Harvey of Mannington.  The great grandchildren are Bryce and Riley McKinney of Fairmont; Gavan Lemley of Metz; Brayden and Liam Gorby of Farmington; and Blake Byard of Mannington.

She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Tom Villers of Metz; sisters-in-law Joyce Thomas of Farmington and Betty Gump of Metz.  She is preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Agnes and Frank Clark and Margaret and Bob Morris, and a brother, Herbert (Sonny) Thomas.

Christine was a 1946 graduate of Mannington High School.  She retired from Westinghouse/North American Phillips with 31 years of service.  She was a founding member and Trustee of the First Century Church of Metz.  She also held many offices in the Metz Community Association which she also was instrumental in organizing.  She was a member of the Augusta Chapter #6 Eastern Star.

She didn’t like to cook (unless you wanted buckwheat cakes or her divinity fudge), but she would gladly take you out to eat and pick up the tab!  About the only thing that would make her consider missing church was her love of bowling and thankfully she was blessed to have been able to do this till shortly before her death.

Those she leaves behind will greatly miss her awesome hugs that she gave freely to all those she met.

The family would like to thank Candy Cain, the wonderful staff on 3A at Fairmont Regional Hospital, Dr. Douglas Wolfe and staff, Dr. Paul Allapat, Dr. G. Patel, Dr. Devabhaktuni, and the Hospice nurses for their loving care.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 12-9pm and then also on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 9-11am at the First Century Church in Metz, WV.  Funeral services will begin at 11am with Pastor Bill Coon officiating.  Burial will follow at the BeeGum Cemetery in Mannington.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Metz Community Center, 8044 Husky Highway, Metz, WV 26585, or also to the First Century Church, 51 Eli Way, Metz, WV 26585.  On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.mastersfuneralhomewv.com
