Dale Willard Matthews, 89 of Fairmont died Tuesday August 23, 2016 at West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg.  He was born March 18, 1927 at Mannington, a son of the late William Christy and Leona Alice Willard Matthews. 

He is survived by four daughters and a son; Alice (Allen) Lewis of Lancaster, OH, Sally (Mark) Anderson of Barrackville, Pamela (Michael) Morton of Pleasant Valley, Kathy (Gregory) Parrish of White Hall, and Rodney Matthews of Fairmont; a brother, David Matthews of Winchester, VA; a sister, Esther (Wayne) Efaw of Mannington; sixteen grandchildren, Aaron Lewis, Adrienne (Ty) Justice, Jenning Dale (Elisha) Anderson, Robert, Haley, Cassandra and Glen Anderson, Melanie (Jason) DeFrance, Chad (Amanda) McClure, Zachary (Elana) Bravet-Morton, and Emily Morton, Jessica (Matt) Menas,  Nathan Parrish, Rodney Dale (Tara) Matthews Jr., Melissa and Cameron Matthews; eighteen great-grandchildren, Bentley, Christie and Karson Davis, Liam Coen, Chelsa Glover, Braelynn and Sylar McClure, Isabella DeFrance, Brantley and Kyleigh Bravet-Morton, Emmalyn and Weston Menas, Mila Parrish, Gage , Rodney Dale III, Paige, Madeline and Teayla Matthews; a nephew, Thomas Fincham was raised in the home; a granddaughter, Gabriella Duncan and her son, Laken,  who were “adopted by his heart”; a brother-in-law, Robert (Agnes) Longstreth; 4 sisters-in-law, Linda Longstreth, Lorraine Yeager, Peggy Beveridge and Brenda Toothman.  

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly June Longstreth Matthews who died on Dec. 31, 2005; his step-mother, Nettie Linville Matthews; 2 brothers, Paul and William J. Matthews and an infant brother, Glenn Matthews; three sisters, Ethel Basnett, Thelma Cole and Edna Mervine.

Dale was a member of the Barrackville Church of Christ.  He was a graduate of Mannington High School.  He was a Corporal in the United States Army having served during the Korean War.  He was a former employee of Hope Natural Gas Co. and also employed was as a Bottle Machine Operator at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. until it closed.  He was then employed by Kennedy Contractor.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, Mannington, WV on Friday, Aug. 26 from 2-9:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held in the Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Steve Snider officiating.  Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.  Full military services will be conducted at the graveside by the U.
