Edward “Cheesy” Ray Toothman, age 80, of Mannington, WV passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was born August 5, 1936 in Mannington, the son of the late Emerson Ray Toothman and Esta Santee Toothman.

Edward married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Lowther on November 20, 1974. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Richard (Kelly) Lowther of Gloucester, Va.; his daughter, Mellissa Toothman of Mannington, in which Mr. Toothman made his home; 4 grandsons, Jackson, Garrison, Carson and Bryson Lowther, all at home in Gloucester, Va.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Robert Toothman and an infant son, Edward Toothman Jr.

Edward managed the Garden Fresh Super Market in Mannington for 13 years and worked in the food service industry in Florida. He held several positions with area businesses including D & G Machine. He served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Mannington Fire Dept. during the 1980’s and was a 31 year member of the Mannington Police Reserves. He was an avid reader of accounting books, collected mechanical pencils and loved his pets. He enjoyed visits with his “adopted” families, especially his many women.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main Street in Mannington. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10:00 am with Pastor Jonathon Hutchison officiating. Interment will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be R.D. Allan, Alex Allan, Wesley Allan, Tony Teets, Ralph Bailey, and Brian (BJ) Scott. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with final expenses. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.mastersfuneralhomewv.com.

Who's going to want to read those dusty old accounting books from the library booksale now? Cheesy was one of those people who contributes to a town, as opposed to just living in it. We will see him everywhere, supervising at the park, and stepping out on the balcony of his apartment to say hello. A truly good guy.
