Esther Juanita Efaw, age 86 of Sunshine Addition, Mannington, WV, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. She was born September 1, 1930 at Sunshine Addition, Mannington, a daughter of the late William Christy Matthews and Leona Willard Matthews.

She is survived by her husband, L. Wayne Efaw, having been married for 68 years; three sons, Michael Efaw, Stanley Efaw, and Jeffery Efaw, all of Mannington; a daughter, Diane Earl and husband Robert of Sunshine Addition, Mannington; six grandchildren, Philip (Heather) Efaw, Regina Vesseochia, Greg Efaw, Shawn (Trista) Bingamon, Daniel (Courtney) Efaw and, Bobby (Patty) Hickman; 6 great-grandchildren: Claire Efaw, Dartagnan Efaw, Maisen Efaw, Rayden Efaw, Silvia Efaw, Riley Bingamon; one half-brother, David (Linda) Matthews of Winchester, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Efaw; a daughter-in-law, Virgie Efaw; three brothers, Dale Matthews, Paul Matthews, and Bill Matthews; three sisters, Thelma Cole, Edna Mervine, and Ethel Basnett; and her step-mother, Nettie Linville Matthews who raised Esther.

Esther was a homemaker and a member of the Mannington Church of Christ and the Ladies Bible Class, which held meetings on Tuesday mornings. She was very active in all church activities and functions. She enjoyed church music and liked George Straight’s music.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St. Mannington on Thursday, April 20, 2017, from 2-4:00pm and 6-8:30pm with a funeral service beginning at 8:30pm with Dr. Evangelist Michael P. Reese officiating. Cremation was Esther’s choice for disposition. Interment of Esther’s cremains will be held at the convenience of the family at Efaw Cemetery on Dudley Fork. At times like these I wish I still lived in WV so that I could hug those of you have lost such a precious wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Although we no longer keep in touch, I want you all to know that my prayers are with you at this time of sorrow.
