George Henry Fletcher, 90, of Rachel, WV, died on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center. He was born June 3, 1925 in a barn in Sunshine, WV, a son of the late Warren Curtis “Buck” Fletcher and Ellen (Beuglass) Fletcher.

He is survived by 3 children, Ed Fletcher of Friendly, WV and friend Monica Knight, Carol Jones and husband Danny of Fairmont, WV and Diane Swiger and husband Robin of Grantown, WV; 2 granddaughters, Sherrie McDaniel and husband Bill of Jonesborough, TN and Jennifer Parker and George Butler of Fairmont; step-granddaughter, Sabrina Turcotte and husband Michael of Grantown, WV; 5 great-grandsons, Malik Kinzer, Donaven Kinzer, Malichi Parker, Julius Butler and Elijah McDaniel; step-great-grandson, Chase Eppenbaugh; great-granddaughter Holly Lindner of Jonesborough, TN; 2 step-great-granddaughters, Katelyn Eppenbaugh and Faith Turcotte; great-great-granddaughter Kylee Linder; 2 great-great-grandsons, Benjamin Lindner and Liam Lindner; 2 brothers, Ed Fletcher of Erlanger, KY and Bob Fletcher of Warren, OH; a sister, Betty Napalo of Rachel, WV (with whom he made his home with).

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife Pauline (Jolliffe) Fletcher, whom he married on August 17, 1946 in Mannington and she passed on June 18, 2001; a son, George Henry “Buddy” Fletcher, Jr., an infant great-granddaughter, Danika Parker; 5 brothers, Curt, Bill, John, Jim and Joe Fletcher; 4 sisters, Lottie Lapinsky, Sarah Watson, Dorothy Fletcher and Helen Hawthorne Baker.

George served in the United States Marine Corp during Iwo Jima and the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the UMWA having worked at Joanne Mines in Rachel where he retired from when it closed. He was a member of the Joanne Sportsman Club, the American Legion in Mannington and a former member of the Sistersville West Virginia American Legion. He loved fishing and hunting, stamp collecting and going to auctions. He had to quit school in the 8th grade to help support his family.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, Mannington, WV on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11am in the funeral home with Reverend William E. McDaniel officiating. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the United States Marine Corp and the Marion County Veterans Council. Interment will follow at the Viewpoint Cemetery in Rachel.
