He is also survived by his daughter Carrie and husband Stuart Marchese and son Rodney and wife Lisa Hatfield; three sisters, Wanda Patterson, Linda and husband Jim Fluharty, and Nancy and husband Robert McLaughlin; three grandchildren, Philip Marchese, and Garrett and Heidi Hatfield; a very special aunt, Emma Unglesbee, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hatfield served in the United States Army 169th Infantry. He was a member of the Mannington A.F. and A.M. Lodge No. 31, Augusta Chapter #6 of Eastern Star and the Blue Lodge of Morgantown. Ross was a wonderful Christian man who loved the Lord. He attended the Mannington Church of Nazarene where he occasionally participated in the choir and sang special solos.

Ross was a self-made business man. He was a professional contractor and skilled carpenter who started his own company and was its president for over 50 years. He mentored his youngest son Rodney from a young age and Rod joined his dad in business as his partner in 1989.

The entire Hatfield family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring professionals of Amedisys Hospice who helped care for Ross during his illness.

In school I called him "Harlan" most of the time and "Ross" some of the time. The last time I saw him was at the VA Hospital. We had a short talk. He was a fellow veteran, a classmate and I always thought of him as a friend. I send this note because I am unable to attend his service. Skitzy

Joann, Carrie and Rod, I was greatly saddened by the news today. Your dad and I have been friends for many years. We didn't see each other a lot, but when we did it was always a happy occasion. May the Lord comfort and strengthen you at this time. May he wrap his arms around you and give you peace.

Rodney,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I was very glad to have met your father and honored to have been able to work with him. What a wealth of knowledge he had about construction and life. He was easy to talk to and I enjoyed each and every chat. We didn't talk much about the projects really but rather mostly small talk. On one occasion he boasted about you and your ability to run grading equipment and of his grandson who although quite young was better than either of the two of you.
My prayers are with you and your family this day.
