James Paul Thorne, age 87 of Mannington, WV, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center. He was born July 24, 1927 at Logansport, WV, the son of the late Edward D. and Dorothy Brummage Thorne.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, A. June Beatty Thorne; one son, Michael (Mandy) Thorne of Mannington, and two daughters, Kathy Besedich of Farmington and Terri (Tom) Rubenstein of Morgantown. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Derek (Janet) Besedich, Ryan (Anna) Besedich, Justin (Marci) Rubenstein, Drew (Britany) Rubenstein, Ashley (Martin) Magers, Adam Thorne and Logan Thorne; 9 great-grandchildren, Devin, Connor, Mya, Adalie, Rysa, Avi and Renzi Besedich and Caleb and Gracie Rubenstein; a sister, Sarah Joan Wilson of Mannington; and a half-brother, Larry D. Hayes of Mannington.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Thorne was preceded in death by one sister, Phoebe Kennedy, and two brothers, Jack Thorne and Donald Thorne.

Mr. Thorne was employed with Carbide in Charleston, WV, the Mannington Pottery and Eureka Pipeline until his retirement. He served on the Mannington Park Board, Mannington Sanitary Board and was director of the Mannington Fair Board for many years. He enjoyed going to his farm with his son Mike and his grandkids and hunting from his cabin. He was a hardworking man. Mr. Thorne was a member of the Mannington Church of Christ. He enjoyed life and was the greatest Papaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, WV on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 2-4:00pm to 6-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the Funeral Home on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Dr. Evangelist Michael P. Reese officiating. Interment will be at Huey-Thorne Cemetery. Mike,Mandy,Adam, and Logan.. My sympathy for your loss. I always enjoyed talking to Jimmy as a Principal and when I worked for the Summer Youth Program and he was Fair director. I know he loved Mannington and all of you very much.

WE are greatly sorry for your loss. Jimmy was a good servant to the community and through the Park Board. WE both started our lives on Burt town hill and remember Jimmy well. I know that through Jesus Christ and our Lord Jimmy will be in a good resting place. Please forgive my absence as I just got out of the hospital.
