Jeanette Shock

Jeanette “Jan” Smith Shock, 78, of Smithfield, WV, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Fairmont Regional Medical Center. She was born May 7, 1936 at Smithfield, WV, a daughter of the late Rex Delbert Smith and Fern Loraine Bays Smith.

She is survived by one sister, Peggy Starkey and her companion Nathan Hinton, Jr., of Smithfield, WV; 3 brothers, James R. Smith and wife Kay of Smithfield, WV, Joseph R. Smith of Smithfield, WV and Walter B. Smith and wife Rosalee of Smithfield; 2 step-sons, Rick Shock and Mark Shock of Florida; several nieces and nephews, Judy Blankenship, Jan DeLong, Vicki White, Christina Kincade, Denise Haught, Tim Swiger, Jayme Jo Baker, Steve Smith, Tammy Meredith, Lisa Brown, Doug Smith, Jim Smith, Sherri Myers, Kerri Shaver, Brad Starkey and Kendra Longwell; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Peggy’s children and grandchildren were like Jeanette’s children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Arden Shock whom she married on December 6, 1958 and died October 12, 1989, and a sister, Shirley Blankenship.

Jeanette was a faithful member of the Pricetown Church of Christ. She enjoyed cookouts and reading. She spent a lot of her time looking after her family. She was employed for many years and retired from Corwin Ford in Mannington. She was a good friend to many, many people.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St. Mannington on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 2-4:00 pm and 6-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Pricetown Church of Christ on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Evangelist Steve Stevens officiating. I am so sorry for your loss. Nan Nan was a great lady and a good friend to a lot of people, including me. She always had a smile for me and a hug! Nan-Nan was a big part of our lives as a Family ,Mine ,Jim's and Samantha's ,giving us a place to live because she didn't want Samantha growing up in those Apartment Buildings to helping do christmas for her one year when I was down and out.She inspired me to be a strong person and helped me in many different way most of them just the talks we had . I loved doing her Christmas lights every year I had only missed doing them twice.This year and two years ago when I had cancer,she called every day to check on me.My heat goes out to all of them .I know mine is as well ,I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AND REMEMBER OUR TALKS.

Dear all,

Rick and I want you all to know how very, very sorry we are for your loss. Nan Nan was special to all of us and she welcomed this "Ohio" family into your family many years ago with open arms. She was "good people" and we will miss her tremendously. Even though we are unable to be there in person, please know that each and every one of you are in our hearts, our prayers, and our thoughts. We will keep Nan Nan close with the great memories we have of our shared times together.
