Louis Gene Carpenter, 71, of Mannington, WV, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center. He was born August 13, 1943 in Metz, WV, son of the late Beryl W. Carpenter and Marquerite C. Tennant Carpenter.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret L. Anderson Carpenter, whom he married on Sept. 18, 1965; one son, Louis Gene Carpenter, Jr. of Fairmont, WV; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Bill and Diana Kranich, Jr. of Sharpsville, PA and Donnie and Mary Satterfield of Enterprise, WV; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; pet dog, Kaley and grand-dog, Oreo, Patches and Lady; 5 brothers, Ward Carpenter Jr. and wife Luz of Alamogordo, NM, Charles “Charlie” Carpenter and wife Betty of Metz, Ronald Carpenter and wife Renee of Mannington, Russell “Russ” Carpenter and wife Nancy of Bentleyville, PA, and Gary Carpenter and wife Shirley of Mannington; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, George and Ruth Carpenter Fortney of Mannington and Lelia Splant of Bolingbrook, IL; 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara Carpenter of Chula Vista, CA and Audrey Carpenter of Mannington; 3 brothers-in-law, Sammy Anderson and wife Martha of Moundsville, Willis Anderson and wife Patty of Mannington, and Carl Anderson of Mannington; several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Dorothy Carpenter and Velma “Louise” Carpenter Powell and husband Denny Powell; 5 brothers, James Orval Carpenter and wife Sue; Robert Archie Carpenter and wife Essie Pauline, Franklin Duane Carpenter, Donald Carpenter and Jerry Wayne Carpenter; brothers-in-law, Robert Anderson, Lee Roy Anderson and wife Beth, and Harold “Butter” Anderson and wife Louise, and Harry Anderson; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Anderson Ashley and husband Rex, Joanne Anderson Roupe and husband Leo; son-in-law, Russell Heater; daughter-in-law, Samantha Carpenter.

Louis was a United States Navy Veteran. He was a man of many trades, always willing to help anyone. He helped renovate the Round Barn, and at the Historical Society. He and his wife enjoyed watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed woodworking and made most of their furniture. He loved cooking for his family, especially around the holidays, and loved having company in his home. He worked at Barrackville Mine, Owens Illinois, and at the Ford Garage in Mannington.

The Family would like to Thank the Marion County Rescue Squad, Amedisys Hospice Care and the Anderson Family, as well as neighbors and friends, for all their help during Louis’s failing health.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St. Mannington on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 from 2-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, in the funeral home, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Coon officiating. I would like to express my condolences to your family. Gene was a great man. I still remember him helping at my mother's , Irene Postlethwait, and picnics with the family. He will be greatly missed by all. May God fill your hearts with peace and Wonderful memories of Gene.
