Roy Kenneth “Buz” Bowers, Jr. 71, of Shinnston, went home with his parents and 2 sisters on January 29, 2018 at his residence. He was born December 20, 1946 at Fairmont, a son of the late Roy K. Bowers and Betty A. Fletcher Bowers.

 

Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bonnie Lou (Smith) Bowers, his children, James Allen Bowers of Fairmont, and Tonia Love (Bowers) Ash of Shinnston. 3 grandchildren, Patrick Morgan Winkler, Marriha George Roach and Kymberly Dawn Winkler. 3 gr. grandchildren, Brooklyn Rae Winkler, Samuel Morgan Winkler, and Damian Kirby.

Also surviving is his brother, Gary and Beverly Bowers of Mannington and several nieces and nephews.

 

In Addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 2 sisters, Charlene K. Webb and Betty Jeanette Crouser, and 1 granddaughter, Gloria Jean Bowers.

 

Mr. Bowers was a 1965 graduate of Mannington High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Vietnam War. He served on the USS Constellation. He was a coal miner for Consolidated Coal Co., having worked at the Loveridge Mine as a mechanic, electrician and a buggy operator. He enjoyed old country music and playing slots. He enjoyed the time he spent with his children. His was described by his sister as “A Rebel With A Cause!”

 

There will be no funeral home visitation or funeral services. Roy’s request for cremation will be honored. A memorial picnic will be held at the convenience of family and friends at Spruce Knob. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mastersfuneralhomewv.com.

Bonnie and Tony--we are so sorry to hear about Buzz. He is one of my fav. cousins. Always so jovial and kind. He reminded me so much of Uncle Roy. He loved our family reunions so much catching up with everyone. I will always remember him dating you Bonnie. He loved you so much. And how happy he was when Tony was born.
