Alberta June Higgins, age 86 of Mannington, WV passed away at WVU Medical Center in Fairmont on Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was born September 3, 1937 in Fairmont, WV, a daughter of the late Fred Denzil “Deacon” Cartright and Elsie Starkey Cartright.
She is survived by five children, William Harold “Bill” (Melissa) Higgins of Mannington, Barbara June (Fred) Ice of Mannington, Rose Marie Sokolosky of Mannington, Daniel Wayne (Judy Leavitt) Higgins of Mannington, and Sandra Kay Fluharty of Barrackville, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Alberta was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her husband Wilbert Harold “Luke” Higgins who died December 19, 2022, her daughter Joyce Ann Wright, her grandson Joshua Allan Higgins, and her brothers and sisters.
Alberta was a homemaker who loved her grandchildren and also people with whom she devoted her life to helping. She also loved listening to country music, especially the “Fridley Brothers”, her favorite song being “Almost Heaven”.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 10:00am to 1:00pm with funeral services beginning at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at the Huey and Thorne Cemetery.
