Barbara E. Hall Carper, 74, of Morgantown, West Virginia and Sebring, Florida, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 in Fort Pierce, Florida with her loving husband, Doug, by her side.

Barbara was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia, the daughter of Randa M. Hall and the late Leonard M. Hall. She grew up in Arthurdale, West Virginia and graduated from Valley High School in Masontown. Barb married her high school sweetheart and as an army wife, lived in Germany and many places across the United States. Yet, her heart always desired Country Roads to take her back home to West Virginia. Barb raised her family after settling near Mannington, WV. She was a people person and enjoyed work as a waitress at such places in Fairmont as the Belmont Supper Club and The Broken Egg. Later, Barb moved to Morgantown, WV, and spent her winters in Sebring, Florida. While in Florida, Barb attended the Church of Buttonwood Bay, was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time with family and her snowbird friends. Whether living on an army base or in Florida, Barb never met a stranger and was loved by all who met her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Teresa Renee Carper and her father, Leonard M. Hall. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Alvin Douglas Carper; three children and their spouses: Douglas L. Carper (Monica) of Idamay, WV; Robert W. Carper (Brittany) of Mannington, WV; and Melissa Alderman (Dustin) of Morgantown, WV. She was also the devoted grandmother of Joanna Carper, Troy Carper, Delaney Alderman and Dreyton Alderman, all whom she cherished. Barbara is also survived by her mother, Randa, and eight siblings and their spouses: Edward (Beth) Hall of Sebring, FL; Frances (Jim) Carper of Sebring, FL; Micheal (Linda) of Morgantown, WV; Roy (Vicki) Hall of Hundred, WV; Debra (David) Street of Masontown, WV; Sheila (Marshall) Hartley of Wadestown, WV; Joyce (Doug) Conklin of Sycamore, PA; and Jacqueline (Jim) Saccamano of Longwood, FL. Barbara will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, cousins, family members, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in memory of Teresa Renee Carper, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the charity of your choice.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, WV on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 11am – 1pm with funeral services beginning at 1pm with Pastor Zane Mitchell and Pastor Martin Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.mastersfuneralhomewv.com.

I just now found out the funeral was today. There are no words that can tell you how sorry I am for our loss. She was a great lady, so nice and kind. The world has lost one of best humans a person could know. I pray for you Dougie and family that God will help you find peace and comfort through this awful time. Words can never say what I feel in my heart. Love You all, and May God Bless You. What a wonderful Angel God has gained.

I want to express my deepest sympathy to Doug and his and Barbara’s children during this sad time. My husband Lionel passed away on 1/18/2017 in Dayton Ohio. We became good friends with Barbara, Doug, and Theresa in Darmstadt Germany in the early sixties, and are left with many wonderful memories. So sorry for your loss she was a special person.
