Bill Linn Dawson, 70 of Katy Hill, Fairmont, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 19, 1948 at Fairmont, a son of the late William Stoie Dawson and Beulah Freda Prince Whitecotton.
He is survived by his wife, Diana “Cookie” Dawson. They celebrated 48 years of marriage on October 28th. Also surviving are his children, Sabrina Efaw and husband Steve of Mannington, Holly Martin and husband Jackie of Four States, Shane Dawson and wife Kimberly of Fairmont, Melissa Streets and boyfriend Sean Stiles of Morgantown; a brother, Jimmy “JD” Dawson of Fairmont and sister Crystal “SISSY” Wolfe of Fairmont; his grandchildren, Travis and Kayla Miller of Morgantown, Heather and James Wright of Mill Fall, Jessica Miller and fiancé Tyler Poling of Morgantown, Chad Efaw of Pittsburg, Alex and Devon Efaw of Mannington, Kelsie Martin of Four States, Devon Martin of Morgantown, Christian Michael Dawson of Reisterstown, MD, Christy Collins of Barrackville, William “Billy” Streets of Pine Grove, Levi Seth Streets of Pine Grove; great-grandchildren, Sophia Wright, Owen Miller, Anna Miller, Elijah Collins and Hyden Collins; a niece, Tabitha “Tabby” Wolfe and nephews Allen and Jeremy Lacaria; his long-life friend and “adopted” son Dave Cross and wife Linda of Stonewood; one cousin, Martha Ann Gaydos of Ohio; his dog Snuggles and cats Stormy and Sampson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Ida Miller.
Bill served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Taconic. He was a member of AF & AM Masonic Lodge #31 in Mannington as a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Osiris Shriner of Wheeling. He was formerly employed at Owens Illinois Glass Plant, as Sgt. at the Mannington Police Dept. and served as Mayor Of the City of Mannington. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching Days of Our Lives and playing video lottery machines. Until his health failed, he enjoyed bowling and fishing.
Cremation was chosen as Bill’s final disposition. A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at the Jewel City Church at Meadowbrook, WV on Friday, April 20, 2018 with visitation with the family from 11-12. A memorial service will begin at 12:00. A luncheon will be held directly after the service. The family would like to thank Fairmont Marion County Transit Authority, Fresenius Kidney Dialysis Center, Marion County Sheriff Dept., Marion County Rescue Squad, and Dr. Karen MacKay.
