Donald G. “Don” Dawson, age 92 of Plum Run, WV passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at his residence. He was born February 21, 1930 at St. Leo, WV a son of the late Virgil Chester Dawson and Margaret Irene Liggett Dawson.

Don attended Mannington High School prior to joining the United States Air Force serving from January 1951 to November 1954 in the Voluntary 3650th Motor Vehicle Unit. He then worked for and retired from Peabody Coal Co. Rachel Mine. His leisure time was spent farming and he loved fishing and hunting.

Don is survived by his wife Jean Jones Dawson with whom he married July 5, 1958. He is also survived by his four children, Denise Turner of Washington, GA, Donna and Dennis Carl of Mannington, Deborah Garrett of Clarksburg, and Joe Dawson of Lexington, NC; 7 grandchildren, David Jeremy (Ashley) Lantz, Ashley R. Lantz, Samantha Dawn Lewis, Mark Lindsey Carl, Jacqueline Estelle “Jackie” Starsick (Eric) Mahaney, Chrystal (William) Ridenour, and Christopher Hibbs; 10 great-grandchildren, Kayla Lewis (Kyle) Compton, Shelby “Morgan” Lewis, Kelsie Lewis, Hunter Lantz, Oliver Lantz, William Dawson, William Ridenour Jr., Xander Ridenour, Havanna Mahaney, and Eric Mahaney Jr.; two great-great-grandsons, Camden Nicholson and Easton “Gus” Nicholson; his sister, Betty Lou Senter of FL; and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Ding McCann, brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Eva Mae Dawson, and brother-in-law, Ted Senter; two infant grandsons, and grandson-in-law, David Lewis.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Amedisys, especially Delphia, Katrina and Brenda, as well as Mary Hillberry and Natalie Swiger for all of their help.

There will be no viewing or funeral services as cremation was chosen as the final method of disposition. Masters Funeral Home in Mannington has been placed in care of the final arrangements.
