Donald Ray Gum Sr., age 74 of Mannington, WV passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024 from lingering illnesses. He was born March 20, 1950 in Fairmont, WV, a son of the late Edward Lee Gum Sr. and Madeline Moore Gum.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna Hibbs Gum, five children, Ashly Gum (Teddy Carnes) of Fairmont, Donald Ray (Adrianna) Gum II of Farmington, Nathan Gum of Fairmont, Misty Harkey of North Carolina, and Christy Drye of North Carolina, and 9 grandchildren, Lexie Gum, Heaven Carnes, Jacob Carnes, Gannon Gum, Carsen Gum, Madeline Gum, Braydon Gum, Major Gum and Kylie Gum. Don is also survived by three brothers, Edward Lee Gum of Farmington, Harold Gum of Farmington and John Paul (Lisa) Gum of Farmington, his sister Penny Kay Gum of Charleston, WV, his favorite uncle Danny Moore of Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his grandson Braxten Gum, his sister Judy Waugh and brother-in-law Wilmer Waugh.
Don worked for and retired from Helmicks in Fairmont with 23 years of service working as a grinder. He enjoyed watching football and westerns on TV. He also enjoyed circle work books, playing softball as he was a good fast-pitch pitcher. He was good husband, father and grandpa!
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 10:00am to 1:00pm with funeral services beginning at 1:00pm with Pastor Lee Bowman. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home.
