Elmer Edgar Channell, age 92 of Worthington, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Stone Rise in Nutter Fort, WV. He was born August 13, 1929 at Elk Water, WV, a son of the late Okey Channell and Sarah Snyder Channell.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judith Darlene Hughes Channell; three children, Stephen Wayne Channell of Elkins, Patricia Elaine (John) Coberly of Jimtown, and David Plaugher of Elkins; two step-children, Stella (Richard) Wells Johnson of Paden City and step-son William (Anna) Wells Jr. of Worthington; several grandchildren; four siblings, Richard (Susie) Channell of Elkins, Marie (Arby) Hamrick of Randolph County, Shirley (Rob) Linsey of Randolph County, and Geraldine (Junior) Harris of Elkins; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by a brother, Roy “Bub” Channell, and two sisters, Ethel Mae Louke and Carrie Florence Swecker.
Elmer was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in Korea from 1951-1953. He was a truck driver for General Overnight Delivery. He was a corrections officer at the Huttonsville Correctional Center in Randolph County for 21 years and also at Salem when it was a Boys Home. He was a member of the West Virginia State Police Reserves for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the Owings Community Baptist Church at Owings. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping as well as watching wrestling on TV.
Family and friends may call at the Masters Funeral Home in Mannington on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 2-8:00pm. There will be no funeral services as cremation was Elmer’s choice for final disposition. Interment will take at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton at a later date at the convenience of the family with where Full Military Rites will be accorded by the United States Army. Melissa has never met you but she still loves you as her husband's uncle. I met Elmer many years ago, he is a good man, had many talks, he knew my mother & my father was his best buddy, he wanted my father & I to contact each other, Elmer & I gave it a shot, I will always be thankful for those moments he gave me, RIP my Friend
Sorry Judy for your loss. I will miss you uncle Shady. You will always have a special place in my heart. Didn't get to see you as much as I wanted due to covid but know that I loved you very much. You were always there when I was a little girl. Thank you for taking my mom,me,my brother and sister into your home. I will always remember and never forget you. Till we meet again. RIP
