George Edward Fortney, age 81 of Mannington, WV passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 19, 2022. He was born December 23, 1940 in Sunshine, WV, a graduate of Mannington High School a having served in the United States Air Force and retiring from Westinghouse/North American Phillips. He loved fishing, gardening, and working on his old 1963 Chevy Impala.
George is the son of the late Aries G. “Jack” Fortney and Sue Glover “Sissie” Fortney. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Fortney Price and her son Ronnie Price.
George is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Laura Ruth Carpenter Fortney and his two children, Charles Dewayne Fortney and Crystal Lowe of Fairview, WV and Regina Fortney Yoho of Douglasville, Georgia. He has two grandchildren, Derek Fortney and Taylor Ashcraft, both of Mannington, WV and Brooks Yoho of Suwanee, GA, and his dog Duke.
The family would like to thank WVU Medicine Hospice, in particular Tessa and Trish as his caregivers, along with friends who assisted the family during George’s illness: his niece Tammy Powell, brother-in-law Ronald Carpenter, friends Eddie Glover, Jim Glover and Terry Yoho, and neighbors of the family.
As a husband, Dad and friend, we will always love and miss you!!
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 2-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 in the funeral home beginning at 11:00am with Pastor Bill Coon officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Marion County Veterans Council in the funeral home parking lot immediately following funeral and committal services.
