James E. Cummins, age 85 of Drakes Run, Mannington and Bonita Springs, Florida passed away on Friday, October 04, 2019 at his residence. He was born October 2, 1934 at Dents Run, Mannington, WV, a son of the late Clarence Ray Cummins and Virginia Gertrude Cummins.
Jim was retired from the United States Army (August 1972) with more than 20 years of service. He also retired from CNG Transmission with 17 years of service on January 1, 1990. He was in the Mannington High School Class of 1953. He was a member of the Bee Gum Union Church, the Metz Lion Club, Mannington Masonic Lodge 31 A.F.& A.M. 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, the Valley of Morgantown and Wheeling Osiris Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S. of Wheeling, and the Upper Mon Valley Shriners Club in Fairmont. He was also a member of the former Oriental Band in Fairmont, the Mannington Post 40 of American Legion and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
Jim was former high school football and basketball official. He enjoyed playing senior softball in winters in Bonita Springs, FL.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann Boyles, whom he married October 6, 1956; one son, Roger Cummins; one daughter, Carol and Mark George; two granddaughters, Courtney Cummins of Fairmont and Destiny Tennant; one step-granddaughter, Samantha George; 4 great-grandsons, Gage Greynolds, Tyson Tennant, Riot Haddix and Maddox Ericson; two great-granddaughters, Karli Tennant and Brayah Hammond.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death his brother, Denzil and his sister, Judy Mae, and his grandmother, Mae Parrish.
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Sunday, October 6, 2019, from 2-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Monday, October 7, 2019 beginning at 11:00am with Pastor Dave Yanero and Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the Marion County Veterans Council in the funeral home parking following funeral services. Burial will follow at the Bee Gum Cemetery. Final graveside rites will be rendered by the Mannington Masonic Lodge 31 A.F. & A.M.
