Kenneth Lee Pethtal, 75, of Mannington, WV, died peacefully at home on April 4 after a short battle with lung cancer. Kenny was born on June 18, 1949 in Fairmont, WV to Jack Pethtal and Mary Lazear Pethtal.
Kenny graduated from Mannington High School in 1968. After graduation, Kenny served in the United States Army from 1969-1971. During his service, he spent time in Germany and in Chu Lai, Vietnam. He was proud of his service to his country.
Kenny married Yvonne Moran December 22, 1979. Together they made many memories as a couple and with friends. But the best memories were with their children, Joni Hearn of Mannington and Danny (Jacyln) Pethtal of Fairmont, and their grandchildren, Addisyn Hearn, Myla Pethtal, and Caden Michalski. Kenny enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family in his own backyard.
Kenny was a coal miner that truly enjoyed his work and the many coworkers that became lifelong friends. He retired from Robinson Run Mine after working at Four States Mine and other local mines. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mannington.
Over the years, Kenny was involved with many organizations in the community including Mannington Little League, Mannington District Fair Association, Elks #388, and United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed golfing, camping, and watching sports, especially ones his grandchildren played.
The family would like to thank all of our friends and church family members that reached out in any way to make these last few months a little easier to bear.
Friends and family may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Mannington, WV on Monday, April 7 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 8 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Jason Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Grafton National Cemetery in Grafton, WV at 2:00.

You are in our thoughts and prayers. May your grief be softened by the memories of all the great times you had together.
I always enjoyed talking with Kenny when we were at a gathering. I have known Kenny for a very long time. We were neighbors at Flaggy Meadow when I was 5 years old and used to ride his ponies.
God bless you
