Loren “Eugene” Earl, age 74 of Metz, WV passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 after a courageous 10 month battle with cancer with his immediate family by his side. He was born October 11, 1949 in Auburn, WV, a son of the late Loren H. and Ethel L. Cottrill Earl.
After high school, Eugene joined the United States Marine Corp and was stationed in Hawaii. He attended the Church Of God Of Prophecy in Metz and the Calvary Baptist Church in Mannington and was retired from Industrial Resources in Fairmont with 41 years of service. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Marines, he met and married his wife of almost 51 years, Betty Ann Gump Earl of Metz. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter Julie Earl Villers and husband Jim of Metz, his three grandchildren, Jacob Villers of Metz, Jonathan Villers of Metz, and Kyleeanna Villers Hicks and husband Justin of Mannington. Eugene is also survived by 5 sisters, Delene Higgins of Metz, Burnetta (Bob) Higgins of Mannington, Brenda (Neal) Sine of Polk City, FL, Mary (Dave) Neese of Morgantown, and Carol (Steve) Michaud of Morgantown, 6 brothers, William Earl of Mannington, Anthony (Debbie “Darlin”) Earl of Conway, AR, Michael (Sharon) Earl of Cumberland, MD, Kevin (Darlene) Earl of Mannington, Robert (Diane) Earl of Mannington, and Calvin Earl of Morgantown, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by one son, Matthew Loren Earl, and three brothers, Delane, Lyle and Ray Earl.
The family would like to Thank WVU Hospice and Stacy and Rebecca for all their care. Also a very special Thanks to his close friends Ken and Janet Fletcher of Jacksonville, NC, Nick and Rita Napalo of Rachel, and an extra special nephew John “Smokey” Higgins of Metz.
There will be no funeral home services as cremation was Eugene’s choice for his final method of disposition. Masters Funeral Home in Mannington has been placed in care of the final arrangements.
