Mike was a good friend of mine. We met in high school auto shop class in California. We shared our love for cars together and spent much of our time working on our cars. I will always remember the fun times we had together. He will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences go out to his entire family.
Our hearts go out to the Huey family. I remember Mike most when he was living in California with Linda and her kids Alan and Zack. Mike was dating my sister Cassie at the time. Mike was always working on his pride and joy the 71 Duster in front of my parents house in Mill Valley Ca back when i was kid. I also remember him making his first quarter mile pass at 13.61 at Sears point after he put a 360 engine in. I am sorry for the loss he is in our thoughts.
Mike and I were high school sweethearts until he moved back to his beloved family and home town many years ago. I still remember the day he drove up my parents hill in his Hemi orange Duster 340 with a wild grin on his face. That started the the Mopar rebuilding shop in front of my parents house for the next four years. I am great full for all of the time we spent on cardboard under that car in rain, sun or dark of night. He worked tirelessly on that car so we could run time trials at Sears point on Wednesday evenings. I will never forget the look of pride on his face when I would idle up to the red light and wait for the lights tree to turn green. I was always nervous that the U blots would break and we would be on our backs again hanging up drive shaft so we could get home after the races.
Something I will never forget that made Mike and I roar with laughter: We were waiting at the regular Drag racing spot in Santa Rosa on a Friday night when a car pulled up next to us and started revving the motor enticing us to race. Mike said "Put your seat belt on or get out I am going to show this guy what a 340 can do." I strapped in and waited to be slammed back against the seat like a million times before. Well that did not happen.... Both drivers floored it but we shot backwards at light speed instead! Mike had forgotten that the car was in reverse. I will never forget Mike or his life love, a bright orange Duster 340
My deepest sympathy's and condolences to his family and friends.
