
Phyllis Jean Toothman Cole, 98, formerly of Mannington, passed away peacefully at her residence in Fairview on Sunday, September 17, 2023. She was born in McClellan (Plum Run) on November 19, 1924 to the late Lawrence Bertie Toothman and Emma Riffle Toothman. She was a graduate of Farmington High School, class of 1942. She married the late Albert Ray “Ab” Cole on January 28, 1943. She retired after working many years for the dental office of Dr. Modi and then Drs. Camele and Parker in Mannington. She was a member of the Mannington Church of Christ and faithfully attended the Washington Street Church of Christ while living in Fairview during the last two years of her life.
Jean is survived by a daughter-in-law, Pamela Cole, of Fairview; a granddaughter, Christy Swick and husband, Shane, of Fairmont; a grandson, Peter Ray Cole and wife, Amantha, of Fairview; a great-granddaughter, Joslyn Swick Newell and husband, Seth, of Mannington; a great-grandson, Gabriel Swick, of Fairmont; a great-granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Cole; great-great-grandsons, Samson James and Ezra Remus Newell; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 61 years, she was preceded in death by her son, Merle “Pete” Cole, and a great-great-grandson, John Cooper Newell. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Clovis, Burl, Rex, and Lynn Toothman, and two sisters, Mary Virginia Cook and Ruth Kuhn.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the Masters Funeral Home in Mannington from 2-6 pm and Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 10-11 am with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am with Evangelist Dr. Michael P. Reese officiating. Burial will follow at the Myers Cemetery on Plum Run.
